The Seppelt Black Opal Stakes is Canberra’s premier race day. The inaugural Black Opal Stakes in 1973 was won by Rich Reward. Now, in it’s 42nd year, the day is one of the more important Autumn race days on the calendar. The Black Opal Stakes program includes the Canberra Cup. The eight race program includes; the $275,000 Seppelt Black Opal Stakes (Group 3), the $200,000 Canberra Cup (Listed), $120,000 Mercedes-Benz (Canberra) National Sprint (Listed) and the $120,000 Canberra Guineas (Listed). Race nominations for all races close on Tuesday 3rd March 2015 at 11am, the full racing program is available under the racing drop down menu.

The action takes place both on and off the track at Thoroughbred Park on Seppelt Black Opal Stakes day. Enter the Myer Fashions on the Field competition for the best prizes in the region. Please note that the Myer Fashions on the Field competition has strict guidelines for each category entry. Categories are Classic Ladies Racewear, Classic Mens Racewear, Classic Couples Racewear and the Millinery Award.

There will also be a number of additional attractions this year including:

  • The Seppelt Marquee – the ultimate in luxury, this new marquee will impress – enjoy canapes and cocktails on the deck overlooking the mounting yard.
  • For the children – Face Painting and Jumping Castle
  • LIVE MUSIC – Be Be Geez
  • Myer fashions on the field
  • Food Alley – a range of delicious food to tantalise the tastebuds
