If you’re heading to Oaks Day and still unsure of how to create a winning look, don’t despair.
Fashion guru Alex Perry has some top tips for a perfect Ladies Day look.
It’s the prettiest event on the Spring Carnival calendar and traditionally Oaks Day calls for feminine and sophisticated trackside elegance.
With perfect Spring weather forecast, the experts are tipping there will be lots of colour, lace and florals.
“My number one tip for Oaks Day fashion is definitely colour,” Alex said. “If you can find some beautiful coloured lace, or some beautiful florals or printed fabrics which have a combination of colour, then embrace those.”
Vibrant lace and muted colours are in. Hemlines are up and flirty, or down and ladylike.
A chic headpiece is a must.
When it comes to choosing that perfect outfit, Alex says opt for one that makes you feel comfortable and confident.
“I don’t think it’s the time to experiment with something you’ve never worn before,” he said.
“You should be guided by your personality and what you like wearing.”
Don’t wear an outfit that is too revealing – save the garments that show off too much skin for a night out, Alex says.
“There’s no rule for length of dress, but don’t wear anything you’d wear to a nightclub or out dancing.”
Alex says choose a style that compliments your figure and remember to accentuate your best assets.
“Look at your shape,” he said. “If you’ve got great legs, then wear something slightly shorter, but if that’s not your best asset then highlight your bust, your shoulders or something else.”
