The Caulfield Guineas

Let The Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival Commence!

There’s no better way to kick off the Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival than presenting three Group 1 races on the same card. That’s exactly what Caulfield Guineas Day offers, and racing enthusiasts rejoice.

Caulfield Guineas Day, on Saturday 13th October 2013, heralds the start of the three-day carnival at Caulfield Racecourse, preceding the mid-week Thousand Guineas and the prestigious, $2.5million Caulfield Cup.

The $1million Caulfield Guineas is considered the blue ribbon event for three year olds. ‘the Guineas’, as it is affectionately known, is run over 1600m, under set weight conditions. The Guineas is often referred to as the ‘Stallion maker’ as Colts who win – or even place in this event –  more often than not become celebrated sires. Names like Lonhro, Testa Rossa, Commands and Octagonal all support this theory.

Caulfield Guineas

Last years race saw one of the greatest upsets in modern days racing. The unbeaten Pierro went into the race as $1.22 favourite  but was gradually reeled in by the enigmatic All Too Hard with Dwayne Dunn aboard

This year’s edition bring’s together another class field with the much hyped Prince Harada, consistent bridesmaid Dissident, the Waterhouse trained Divine Calling, and the boom runner Long John all contesting the feature.

Who will win the coveted $1million prize and etch their name in racing history?

Come Saturday afternoon a new champion will be added to the illustrious Caulfield Guineas honour roll and possibly earmark a worthy future Stallion.
