Chambord – 3yo Gelding
Breeding : Zabeel – Miss Montjeu ( Montjeu )
Trainer : Jason Bridgman
Hugely impressive winning at Te Rapa 26/4. Restrained to just beyond midfield after jumping well, travelled strong to the corner making ground up near the rail. When in the clear showed a brilliant turn of foot to put this race away quickly, finding the line strong. Is already 3 times stakes placed, best being a good 2nd to Atlante in the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas. He’s always shown plenty of ability and on this win he looks like he’s ready to break through at group level.
The Bold One – 3yo Colt
Breeding : Fastnet Rock – The Jewel ( O’Reilly )
Trainer : Allan Sharrock
This well bred colt made a big impression on debut winning by 5 lengths at Wellington over a 1000m on a slow track and backed it up at Te Rapa 26/4 with a very good 4th at his 2nd start in a Group 3 over 1200m. Sat just off the speed in an average tempo, got to the outside on a day where it looked hard to make ground out wide, and found line well in the overall fastest last sectional of the day. Judging by his first 2 runs if he keeps this level of improvement I have no doubt he’ll win a group race in the near future. If this colt can manage to win a Group 1 he’d become a very valuable horse / stallion prospect.
Miss Foxwood – 3yo filly
Breeding : Fastnet Rock – Foxwood ( Centaine )
Trainer : Roger James
Comes out of the same race as The Bold One and the best run of the race in the Group 3 at Te Rapa 26/4. Restrained out of the gate settling beyond midfield, got to the outside and overcoming the speed of the race and track bias hit the line well in the fastest last sectional of the day. This filly has form around some of the best 3yo’s in NZ including Beauty’s Beast who she ran 2nd to in her previous start before Beauty’s Beast came to Australia and won the Listed South Pacific classic at Randwick. I have no doubt there’s a group win in Miss Foxwood’s future especially as she steps up in distance .
Stella’s Honour – 3yo filly
Breeding : O’Reilly – Stella’s Pantry ( Danewin )
Trainer: Michael Moroney & Chad Ormsby
WOW what a win this was at Avondale 30/4. From 2nd last on the corner she unleashed a brilliant turn of foot to reel in the leader who had kicked 3 lengths clear, easily running the fastest last sectionals of the day. This filly has always shown a massive amount of potential and after coming back from a spell she looks like she’s putting it all together. Raced fresh 1st up being beaten by the Queensland bound Telepathic, then was absolutely brilliant here stepping up to the 1400m. This was a win of a topliner, as she steps up in trip and with her breeding I have no doubt she’ll win a big race in the near future.
