SALON SOLDIER (GER)
Sire: Soldier Hollow (GB)
Dam: Salonblue (IRE)
Age/Colour/Sex: 5Yo Bay Horse
Trainer: Kris Lees
The Kris Lees trained Salon Soldier snuck past our spotters and invaded our shores with little fanfare. That was until he dismantled a quality field over 1600m at Randwick by 2 1/2 lengths.
Settling near the rear of the field, Jimmy Cassidy cut the 5yo horse loose in the straight to easily account for his rivals, powering all the way to the line.
Prior to coming to Australia, he had won two of his 12 starts in Europe and Dubai, contesting both Group and Listed races. But it was his sixth placing behind Novellist in a Group 2 over 2200m at his final start that really caught Lees attention.
“He was only beaten four lengths by Novellist who was favourite for the Arc until he got scratched,” Lees said.
Lees faith in Salon Soldiers form would be franked by his debut in Australia and he would go on to say after the race –
“He has got good 2000m form in Europe which normally means 2400m here, long term I think he is a BMW horse, he gives me that impression, to see him sprint like that over a mile and the first time he has been over a mile as a five-year-old is a good sign.”
With this is mind he will now step out in Race 8 on Melbourne Cup day over 1800m in a Listed event. He will line up against Mull of Killough who’s last start was in the Cox Plate, and Gris Caro who recently ran a gallant 2nd in the JRA Cup at Moonee Valley.
We at Fillies Form are happy to recruit this Soldier to our Stable, as we believe he has the right ammunition to mow down his rivals.
