Sire: Exceed and Excel
Age/Colour/Sex – 3 Yr Old Bay Filly
Trainer: Peter Snowden
What is there not to like about this classy filly?
If first impressions count then this filly by Exceed and Excel has all the makings of a super star.
Last season Guelph was the only juvenile dual Group 1 winner.
The Peter Snowden trained filly was more than imposing when winning the Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield and then snared two Group 1 feature filly races in Sydney.
Doubt’s about her ability to return as a successful 3yo were quickly laid to rest. In emphatic fashion she took our the Tea Rose Stakes and backed up the win with an easy victory in the Flight Stakes at Randwick.
On the horizon is the Schweppes 1000 Guineas and Guelph goes into the race as the dominant favourite.
If she is successful Guelph will become just the third filly, after Goleen (1984) and Dashing Eagle (1996), to win the Flight Stakes/Thousand Guineas double.
Fillies Form believes Guelph to be the best credentialed 3yo entered for the Cox Plate. Peter Snowden is playing down the chancess of Guelph taking part in the prized feature, but if her winning form continues, she may be the first three year old filly to win the Cox Plate since Surround in 1976.
